Service to the Troop in a Leadership Position - Troop 132 Guidelines

Star, Life, and Eagle ranks require 4 or 6 months of active service is a position of
leadership to the Troop.  Troop 132 further qualifies this to mean:

1) Leadership position must be one of those listed in the Boy Scout Handbook or
approved by the SALT group.  Approved positions include: (Click on position to see a
description.)

Senior Patrol Leader
- Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
- Troop Guide
- Patrol Leader
- Troop Quartermaster
- Troop Adventure Guide
- Troop Scribe
- Troop Librarian
- Troop Historian/Reporter
- Den Chief
- OA Rep
- Junior Assistant Scoutmaster
- Web Master

Positions NOT to be used for leadership requirements include:
- Assistant Patrol Leader
- Patrol Scribe
- Patrol Quartermaster
- Patrol Adventure Guide

2) Leadership position must have been carried out in earnest (duties of position as listed
on the Troop’s web site) and not just a title given by the troop. Scout must have tangible
results from the position for the entire time period that he held the role.  Upon the
completion of the 4-6 months the scout must report out what he accomplished in his
role.  SALT (Scoutmaster Adult Leadership Team) must approve each boys contribution
to the troop.

3) As there are 8 or more weeks (mid-June to September) during the year without
scouting activities where leadership skills can be demonstrated, the months of July and
August are not eligible to count as leadership to the troop.

4) Special circumstances may occur where patrol activities or summer camp activities
are given leadership positions that count toward advancement requirements.  Such
activities will be designated by the Scoutmaster and noted in the scout’s handbook.
