There are always lots of questions for boys going on their first campout.  We will try to get a lot of advancement work done
during the campout, so there are some things boys need to be prepared for.

First of all, boys and parents need to know
What To Bring Camping.  Two boys will share a tent.  Boys should work out
who they are tenting with before the campout, so we are sure everybody has a place to sleep.  If anyone needs a
tent-buddy, feel free to have your son ask any of the scoutmasters for help.

Anything that could get wet (especially sleeping bag and clothes.) should be in a plastic bag.  If you have a back pack,
pack everything in it. If you don't have a pack, put it in a duffel bag or large garbage bag.

Normally we try to take a hike on campouts where lots of new boys attend.  Second Class requirement 6b says prepare a
personal first aid kit to take with you on a hike.  If you make a kit and bring it with you we will get that requirement done. We
will probably also work on safe handling of knives, axes, and saws, wild animals, wild plants, fuel preparation, lighting fires,
selecting campsites, assistant cook, and whatever else we can think of to work on.  Campouts provide lots of time to get
things done.

The Troop camps one weekend each month, even in the winter.  Winter camping trips are some of best attended and a lot
of fun.  We have included all sorts of information on
Winter Camping here in the website.  We have also gone on trips
canoing, white water rafting, and
Backpacking.

All adventures require each boy to bring a new, signed Consent Form.  You must bring a signed
consent form to go on
any adventure.   Click here for a list of
Activities To Date that have been completed by the troop.
Going Camping
Camping With Troop 132

1.  Remember....always have a buddy when backpacking.  Know where they are at all times.  If you lose them, know what
to do.

2.  Remember...what to do if you get separated from your buddy, and/or Patrol.  STOP...Stay Calm, thing to remember is
your Patrol Leader and Buddy will notice you missing and come find you.  So....stay put!

3. Remember....working as a team can be a blast!  A team works because every team member has skills that complement
other team members.  Some scouts are very skilled at Orienteering.  Others at First Aid.  Others at loading backpacks.
Communicate with your Patrol and know who is good at these and other skills....then as a team you can do anything!

Happy backpacking... Mr. Ken Rapp
Trail Tips

Each trip that the Troop undertakes is planned and run by a designated Patrol Leader.  The Patrol Leader, working
closely with a SALT Team Member and Activities Coordinator, will chose the location, determine logistics, recruit scouts to
attend and manage the entire trip.
Campout Planning outline is provided to assist the team in planning the trip.  Outlines
for the
Patrol Leader Outline and the SALT Team Outline designate specific items needed to be addressed during a trip
planning process.

Camping Resources page and Camping Forms are located in Forms.
