
This list will help you work together with a Patrol Leader in planning a campout. Our goal is to educate our leaders to be able to plan and run events like campouts. Remember, our boys haven’t done this before so it’s a big deal for them. Help him come up with a good plan for the trip. Help him organize the things he needs to get done. Provide a sanity check on the activities, helping him think them through. You are his coach and trainer. 1. Meet with your Patrol Leader to discuss the trip 2. If you already have a location chosen, review the location and what is there. Work together to come up with a trip plan that includes the major theme of the trip, the key activities, and the basic organization of the trip. 3. Things that YOU are specifically responsible for:
cabin camp, you will need to contact the council who runs the camp and register our troop and get money to them for use of the cabins.) - Get any permits required - Work with Sue Johnson to get a BSA “Tour Permit” - Find out if fires are allowed and get any special permission required - Determine the constraints or usage guidelines for the location

- Make sure we have enough drivers and seats. Who will ride with whom? - If we bring the trailer, get someone to tow it. - Where will cars be parked? - Will the trip end in a different location? If so, is there parking there? Come up with a plan to shuttle cars to the destination. - Is there a locked gate? If we need to get through, arrange to get a key or to have the gate opened. - Get driving directions and distribute them to the drivers. - Get driver mobile-phone numbers for contact during the trip. - Can boys come late or leave early? If so, please work out these details.

- We have several boys with special medical needs. You will need to be responsible for holding and distributing any medication, epi-pens, etc.
