Survival Kit Essentials
(What you should always have with you when you
enter the woods)
The following items should be kept in a small case so they are always ready.  (A small fanny pack
works nicely.)

Essentials
  • Pocketknife
  • Compass
  • Fire Starter materials in zip-lock bag (matches or lighter, lint or hemp rope, or steel-wool
    and battery)
  • Band Aids plus mole-skin for blisters
  • Handkerchief
  • Twine
  • Extra shoelaces
  • Warm Up Blanket (We have these available if you need one)
  • Pencil & small paper
  • Signal mirror (non-breakable, aluminum foil works week and can be handy for other stuff.)
  • Whistle
  • Toilet Tissue (in a small zip-lock bag)
  • Lip Balm
  • Advil
  • Safety Pin (Used for lots of things like removing splinters)
  • Water Purification Tablets
  • Small zip-lock bag to put water in when purifying
  • Fish hook and 15 ft of light-weight fishing line
  • Light (A small headlamp is best, but a small flashlight also works well)

Loaded for each trip
  • Map of the location that you will be hiking
  • Energy bar
  • Insect repellent (seasonal)
