What to bring: If you plan to sleep in the cabin both nights: - Sleeping bag - Mess Kit - Water bottle or canteen - Survival supplies (compass, knife, fire-starter, whistle, metal cup, light-weight cording, Toilet Paper, Hemp rope (for fire starting), small pencil and paper, small flashlight and a handkerchief.) All should be in a waterproof ziplock sack. (I use a small fanny pack to hold my kit.) - Any small games (cards, battleship, etc.) are always fun at night for the cabin. - Pad of paper and a pencil (you'll need this for some of the activities) - Personal hygiene kit
Sleeping outside in a shelter if you plan to sleep outside in a shelter you need warmth to about zero degrees. If you don't have a bag rated for zero you have options to increase the warmth of your bag. Options include: - double up 2 bags - Bring a 2 heavy blankets, making an inside liner from one and put the other under your bag - Get an outer bag cover that is made for additional warmth. - You'll need TWO sleep rolls under you to sleep on the ground in the winter. If you don't have 2 rolls then you can use one role and a heavy blanket that is folder in 4 layers. - TWO hats - one for the day and one to sleep in The one you sleep in stays dry and is important for the night.
