Regarding Service Projects as a Troop, the Troop will do approximately 1 authorized community service activity a month. An authorized project will provide adult troop leadership. All other community service events are available to scouts to participate in but they will need to have the approval of their parent/guardian as well as provide their own supervision. The group sponsoring the activity can sign off the community service hours sheet. Be sure to remember your hours sheet regardless of whether the activity is troop sponsored or not. For specific information on community service requirements, see Document Service Projects or contact the Community Service Coordinator Upon completion, make sure you have your Community Service Form signed |
Second Class*: rank requires 1 hour of participation in a service project. Star and Life: ranks each require 6 hours of participation in a service project(s). You may complete these requirements on your own or do it along with members of your patrol or troop. Projects must be approved by your Scoutmaster. Examples of what does qualify as a service project are: - Assisting an Eagle Scout candidate with their approved service project - Memorial Day flowers for Veterans - Memorial Day flags for Veterans - Men’s Club Town Clean-up - Upton Youth Club field clean-up - Raking leaves at the Holy Angel’s Rectory (completed with the troop) - Alter Server (can not be used for more than 1 hour of the 6 hours for each rank requirement) - Cub Scout community service project that Boy Scouts actively participated in (i.e. Fuel Assistance Spaghetti Supper held by the Cub Scouts where they requested Boy Scout volunteers) Eagle rank requires you to be a leader. This service project requires you to plan, develop, and provide leadership to others in a service project of real value benefiting the environment, your community, or a religious group, school, or other worthy group. For more information see the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, BSA publication No. 18-927. (If your patrol is thinking of an activity, please get documented approval from the Scoutmaster before the activity. If you have questions as to what qualifies and what does not, please do not hesitate to contact the Scoutmaster.) * NOTE: All of the above examples may be used for the Second Class requirement except: "Assisting an Eagle Scout candidate with their approved service project." |

On December 18, 2011 Troop 132 went to Worcester to help sort Christmas gifts for needy families. They had a shipment of 6000 gifts coming in on the 18th and really need our help. The Boy Scouts were given different jobs. Some were sorting new gifts in to bins, and some were "shopping" and picking out a bag full of gifts that child would receive on Christmas morning. It is an eye opening experience for the boys to see. In every bag they would pick out one coat, one clothing item like a sweatshirt and one toy. They would then add some stocking stuff like a hat or mittens, maybe a coloring book or a movie. The boys worked very hard to make a child's Christmas special. Scouts attending were Cullen F., Kyle , Bryan S, Russell P, Stephen P, Tony, Brian O, Kaelan F, and Adam O. |
