Scout Handbook (Can be purchased at the scout shop along with the uniform)
3-ring zipper notebook with baseball-card plastic pages. (The boys will need to keep records of their accomplishments as they earn badges and rank. Your son will need to bring this notebook and his scoutbook to every scout meeting, so try to get a durable notebook and one big enough to fit the scout handbook inside.)
Basic Camping Equipment to get started
Sleeping Bag (If you are buying new, try to get a light-weight mummy-bag rated for at least 15 degrees) Remember, your son will often be carrying this bag in his backpack, so the lighter the better)
Sleep pad (closed foam)
Mess Kit and camping fork/spoon/knife
Durable water-bottle (Nalgene-like bottle)
Flashlight or head-lamp (head-lamp preferred)
Hiking boots/shoes
Backpack (Frame-packs are best for new scouts. Be sure to get a small one that fits.)
Compass
Pocket-knife
Water-proof match container (You can use a zip-lock bag to start)
